E-Newsletter: Update on Open Internet Action at FCC

Statement

Date: May 15, 2014

Dear Friend,

Recently you wrote to me about net neutrality. As you probably know, today the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved a net neutrality proposal to formally begin their rulemaking process in an effort to restore the "Open Internet" rules. While the order has not yet been released, reports are that the proposal would allow Internet Service Providers to create faster-speed Internet connections for content providers like Netflix and Facebook that are willing to pay a fee. Once it is posted, you will be able to read the draft rules on the FCC website at http://www.fcc.gov.

There is an open comment period from the public on this proposal. I encourage you to register your opinion on the proposal before the deadline four months from today when the FCC will vote on a revised draft. You can do so by e-mailing openinternet@fcc.gov. Over 100,000 people have already commented.

As a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, I will continue to follow this issue and ensure we keep an open and fair internet with rules that protect consumers and small businesses.
